Polygons are the industry standard for modeling It's easy to forget that applications have other methods for creating geometry. In Autodesk's Maya, there are three main methods, including polygons,NURBS and Sub-Ds.

Maya 2017's Update adds some refinements to the modeling toolkit’s retopology toolset, making the Quad Draw workflow much better. Quad Draw overlays are easier to see on the live surface that you are working on.
